NATURE’S OZMPIC
Ready to try it? Here’s my simple, delicious recipe using yerba maté and Organifi Red Juice:
Recipe
1 scoop of yerba maté tea
1 scoop of Organifi Red Juice powder
Juice of half a lemon (optional)
Instructions
Fill a glass with cold water.
Add a scoop of Organifi Red Juice powder and yerba maté powder (make sure to use unroasted yerba maté). Unroasted yerba maté, also known as green yerba maté, retains more antioxidants and beneficial compounds compared to roasted versions, making it more effective for supporting metabolic health and suppressing appetite.
Stir or blend well until fully mixed.
Squeeze in some lemon juice if desired for an extra refreshing twist.
Enjoy this delicious and refreshing concoction, full of health benefits!
I’m not a huge fan of using pharmaceuticals for weight loss. In fact, I’m not a fan at all, especially because of how dangerous these drugs can be. However, I am a fan of helping people improve their *metabolic health* because poor metabolic health is one of the top predictors of disease and death.
Sadly, recent data shows roughly 90% of the US population has “metabolic dysfunction”. The percentage of adults who are overweight, including those who are obese, is even higher, totaling about 74%.
There’s a lot of research suggesting that improving the function of the GLP-1 pathway is a highly effective way to restore metabolic function and help with weight loss.
Since this whole Ozempic craze, I’ve been trying and researching every form of natural alternatives, looking for options that research has shown can work in the same way. Some of these include berberine, allulose, and foods like protein, healthy fats, leafy vegetables, etc. Side note, research has also shown that chewing your food longer increases the GLP-1 pathway!
Anyway, I stumbled across an article by Dr. Huberman who has conducted extensive research on the GLP-1 pathway. His findings reveal that Yerba Maté works remarkably similarly to Ozempic, providing a natural alternative with comparable benefits for metabolic health. I wasn’t convinced at first, so I tried it out for a few weeks and put my own spin on it to make the concoction more effective and delicious. I did this by adding a superfood powder loaded with polyphenols and prebiotics—both of which feed a gut bacteria called Akkermansia, which has also been shown to increase the secretion of GLP-1 in the intestines.
I have to say, this concoction is insanely delicious (after my addition), and I found myself sipping it for a lot of the summer. I’ll also add, it’s a VERY powerful appetite suppressant—sometimes I didn’t feel hungry for hours on end. It was wild.
The superfood blend is also full of beet powder, which helps with ATP (energy) production, methylation (detox), and increases nitric oxide (oxygenating cells), all of which have massive additional health benefits. It also contains acai powder, tart cherry, rhodiola, cordyceps, eleuthero root (high in vitamin C), chaga (amazing for bolstering the immune system), and blueberry.
Yerba Maté & the GLP-1 Pathway
You may have heard a lot recently about the GLP-1 pathway and how it’s being targeted by drugs like Ozempic for weight loss. GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide 1) is a hormone that plays a critical role in regulating appetite, slowing gastric emptying (how quickly your stomach empties after eating), and increasing feelings of fullness or satiety. In simple terms, activating the GLP-1 pathway can help reduce hunger and promote weight loss.
But you don't have to rely on pharmaceuticals to achieve this! There’s strong evidence that yerba maté, a traditional South American tea, can naturally boost the GLP-1 pathway, providing many of the same benefits in a much healthier way. Yerba maté is not only a potent appetite suppressant, but it’s also packed with antioxidants and nutrients that improve metabolic health.
A study published in the journal Obesity found that participants who consumed yerba maté experienced significantly reduced appetite and improved lipid metabolism compared to those who didn’t. Yerba maté has also been linked to increased fat oxidation (burning fat for fuel) and reduced fat cell formation. This makes it a natural, sustainable way to support weight loss while boosting your body’s ability to regulate food intake.
Organifi Red Juice: Polyphenols & Prebiotics for Gut Health
Now, let's talk about Organifi Red Juice—a superfood powder that complements yerba maté perfectly. This blend is packed with polyphenols and prebiotics, which are crucial for nourishing the beneficial bacteria in your gut. Unfortunately, many of us fall short in our intake of polyphenols, making this blend a valuable addition to support your gut health.
A study in Gut Microbes highlighted that polyphenols (abundant in Organifi Red Juice) promote the growth of Akkermansia, which in turn enhances the production of GLP-1 in the intestines. This dual effect—boosting gut health and GLP-1 secretion—creates an incredibly powerful synergy for improving metabolic health and supporting weight loss.
Research from Nature Medicine has found that higher levels of Akkermansia in the gut are associated with improved insulin sensitivity, reduced inflammation, and better glucose metabolism—all of which contribute to healthier body weight. A recent gut test I did revealed that I have increased my Akkermansia muciniphila by about 3x!
What’s in Organifi Red Juice?
Here’s what makes this blend so powerful:
Beet powder: Boosts nitric oxide production, supporting energy and cardiovascular health.
Acai powder: Packed with antioxidants that help fight inflammation and promote overall well-being.
Tart cherry: Known for reducing inflammation and improving recovery, especially after exercise.
Rhodiola: An adaptogen that helps your body adapt to stress, improving stamina and energy levels.
Cordyceps & Eleuthero root: Both of these ingredients enhance endurance and boost immune function.
Chaga mushroom: Rich in antioxidants, Chaga supports the immune system and overall vitality.
Blueberry powder: A great source of antioxidants that support brain health and lower inflammation.
Together, these ingredients are designed to feed your gut’s good bacteria, improve your body’s natural metabolism, and boost your energy—all without the crash you get from caffeine or sugar-loaded energy drinks.
