MOVE
Exercise is a celebration of what the body can do, not a punishment for what you ate.

One of the most powerful ways
I shifted my mindset about exercise
was when I changed my WHY.
Through a good dose of debilitating chronic pain, the inability to be active or exercise, and lots and lots of tears, I am now so grateful for this new-found perspective. Exercise is not a punishment, a dreaded task, a way to burn calories, or another thing on my to-do list.
Rather, it’s a celebration of what my body can do. It’s a privilege!
I’ve also realized that exercise isn’t always healthy. Our society and the fitness industry often encourage us to disconnect from and tune out our bodies. We’re told to push through despite depletion, to use exercise to escape from stress, or to work out as a way to burn extra calories – none of which is healthy or beneficial.

HOW I STAY
MOTIVATED
MINDSET SHIFT
I shifted my mindset from one of punishment to one of celebration. It’s been a game changer. Let’s face it: we all take what our bodies can do for granted. Being grateful for what our bodies are capable of is one of the most powerful motivators!
MAKE IT FUN
Exercise doesn’t have to be running on the treadmill for an hour. Dance! Grab a friend and try a new class! Get outside and explore. Move your body and be grateful for every step along the way. Exercise is better for you when you enjoy it.
MAKE IT ABOUT MORE THAN LOOKS
Exercise changes your body and it’s perfectly fine to desire change. However, I encourage you not to let change be your main focus or only source of motivation. Shift your focus towards how exercise, self-care, and caring for a body that you love makes you FEEL. This will take you so much farther.
PROGRESS NOT PERFECTION
It’s easy to look in the mirror and see flaws, the things that are “not good enough,” the things that we want to “fix.” Instead, focus on all the things that are right. Focus on the fact that you’re celebrating your body. Remember that your body is beautiful, no matter your size. No shape or form of exercise will ever make you feel good enough – that acceptance must come from within.
